After Isagoras proved victorious in the struggle to obtain political power, Cleisthenes and his followers were exiled from Athen territory. However, using appropriate wording and encouraging speeches to gather more supporters, Cleisthenes returned to Athens and successfully cornered Isagoras in a protest which lasted approximately three days. Isagoras surrendered the title to Cleisthenes. Isagoras and others fled the city.
